ST. LOUIS-( Business Wire )-MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) announced today that its office at 13045 Tesson Ferry Road has earned an ENERGY STAR rating from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its superior energy performance and management.
This latest achievement marks MetLife’s 13th ENERGY STAR-rated owned and/or operated property. Additionally, six company owned and/or operated properties have received Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certifications from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). MetLife’s energy management policy as well as other sustainability initiatives have enabled the company to reduce its energy consumption by more than 16% since 2006.
“MetLife’s energy management program is just one of the many initiatives the company is focused on, reducing its overall global impact,” said John Vazquez, vice president, vendor sourcing and corporate services & chief procurement officer. “We are pleased to be recognized once again by the EPA for our continued environmental leadership and commitment to long-term sustainability.”
ENERGY STAR facilities use less energy, operate in a more cost effective way and generate less greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) than other buildings. To earn the rating, MetLife took several steps to improve the building’s performance and reduce its environmental impact, including installing occupancy sensors in conference rooms as well as energy efficient lighting and water fixtures.
ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy that recognizes energy-efficient solutions and best management practices. Buildings holding this certification rank among the top 25 percent of efficiently operated buildings in the country.
