Prudential Financial Annual Golf Outing To Support Youth Hockey in Newark

NEWARK, N.J.-( Business Wire )-

Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE: PRU) will use the proceeds generated from its 21st Annual Charity Golf Outing to benefit Hockey in Newark, Inc., a Newark, New Jersey-based not-for-profit organization whose mission is to introduce the City’s youth to hockey. The outing will be held on Wednesday, September 15 at the Farmstead Golf and Country Club in Lafayette, New Jersey.

Since its inception seven years ago, Hockey in Newark, Inc. has grown from five to over 200 participants. The free year-round program which requires participants to be Newark residents, targets youth from 8-18 years old and holds scrimmage and practice sessions at Prudential Center, home of the New Jersey Devils. Its education-based programming supports academic achievement, good citizenship and teamwork, and all travel team members must have at least a C average. The sponsorship is part of Prudential’s ongoing and long-standing commitment to support communities in which is does business.

“We’re pleased that the recipient of this year’s charity outing is Hockey in Newark, Inc., which provides Newark youth with an opportunity to enjoy the sport of hockey, while also offering them academic support to be successful in the classroom,” said Gabriella Morris, vice president and head of Community Resources at Prudential.

“The New Jersey Devils proudly sponsor Hockey in Newark. The success of Keith Veltre and Dennis Ruppe to both mentor and teach so many children is a testament to their commitment to Newark and its families,” said Jeff Vanderbeek, Chairman and Managing Partner of the New Jersey Devils.

“The support from Prudential Financial's Annual Golf Outing is going to assist Hockey in Newark, Inc. in creating more opportunities for Newark's youth on and off the ice,” said Keith Veltre, co-director of Hockey in Newark, Inc. “We are extremely proud of our program and grateful that Prudential has allowed us to continue to open doors for our children.” “Hockey is the hook that brings our children together but at our program's core, it's all about academics, character, life skills and becoming a contributing member to society.”

Founded in 2003, Hockey in Newark, Inc. started as a feeder source to Newark’s East Side High, the only urban high school in the state with an ice hockey program. The organization now cultivates the growth of hockey in Newark on various levels in partnership with the Devils Arena Entertainment, LLC, The Newark Public Schools and the City of Newark and its Department of Recreation.
