Panasonic Hosts Recycling Collection Event on October 2, for Local NJ Residents to Drop-Off Consumer Electronics Products
SECAUCUS, N.J., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Panasonic Corporation of North America is proud to host another free consumer electronics recycling collection event* for its NJ hometown community in Secaucus, NJ, at the corporate campus at 50 Meadowlands Parkway in Secaucus on Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 9:00am – 1:00 pm. Panasonic's northern NJ neighbors are welcome to recycle their consumer electronics items, including televisions, VCRs, stereos, video monitors, computers, printers, cell phones, and more. Panasonic already has more than 640 locations in its voluntary nationwide recycling program and holds scores of events across the country every year, helping ensure that millions of pounds of electronics are properly disposed.
"Panasonic aims to become the world's leading green innovations company in the electronics industry by 2018 – our company's 100th anniversary," says David Thompson, Director, Corporate Environmental Department, Panasonic Corporation of North America. "In addition to Panasonic's widely recognized environmental responsibility for its manufacturing, sourcing, transportation and sales activities, we seek to ensure we have a positive impact on the surrounding environments where we operate. Panasonic is pleased to host this local drop-off event to provide another easy, responsible recycling opportunity for our Secaucus-area community and to help alert others about the services Panasonic offers for recycling consumer electronics."
Panasonic is committed to recycling its end-of-life products properly, and has announced a goal to grow its nationwide recycling program to include at least 800 convenient drop-off sites by next year. To date, Panasonic has recycled 20 million pounds of electronics. Panasonic subscribes to strict electronic product recycling standards, including that no products be exported for recycling.
In addition, to support effective and responsible recycling, Panasonic founded MRM (Electronic Manufacturers Recycling Management Company, LLC), together with Sharp and Toshiba, and in 2009, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) declared the joint venture the first-ever winner of the "Plug-In To eCycling TV Recycling Challenge" Award. MRM was awarded the honor over other programs on the basis of its partnerships, innovation, longevity, consumer outreach, accessibility, pounds of TVs collected and ability to ensure that responsible recycling practices are followed. In making the award, the EPA cited MRM's "wide reach" and "different approaches to collecting TVs, including working with charities and self-storage units." Since MRM was established in 2007, the company has been responsible for recycling more than 55 million pounds of electronics.
* This Panasonic recycling event is intended for consumers only. Electronics products from businesses will not be accepted.
