LAS VEGAS, Jan. 11, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (INTERNATIONAL CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW 2012 – BOOTH #31253) -- Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon and software solutions to enable connected home entertainment, today announced its silicon and software based on the MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax) standard has been deployed by Pace plc, a leading developer of digital TV technologies for the pay-TV industry, in its HR34 Home Media Center HD-DVR for DIRECTV. The HR34 represents the satellite industry's first server-client gateway platform to be deployed to customers.
DIRECTV continues to demonstrate its commitment to MoCA-based home networking by leveraging the Pace HR34 Home Media Center, which uses Entropic's award winning MoCA silicon and software to enable sharing of multimedia and distribution of high definition (HD) content into and around the home. Entropic's MoCA technology transforms existing coaxial infrastructure in the home into a highly efficient, affordable and reliable whole-home entertainment network, ready to meet the new video delivery demands required by the convergence of broadcast and broadband networks, as well as supporting the delivery of RVU™ technology.
The HR34 Home Media Center HD-DVR is a large capacity gateway server that delivers full DVR capabilities, including trick play and multi-room viewing for each 'client' device, or RVU-enabled TV. It incorporates multiple tuners to receive up to five simultaneous HD streams with complete flexibility over the combination of viewing and concurrent recording and playback options on up to four televisions, simultaneously. Finally, the new gateway server is fully RVU-compliant; a Remote User Interface client / server-based technology that gives consumers a consistent viewing experience on any screen via a server-generated user interface by pulling content from the HR34 server to any RVU-enabled consumer electronics (CE) device, including: TVs, PCs, laptops, tablets game consoles, and Blu-ray players.
"MoCA has become a core requirement in DIRECTV receivers – and Entropic's field-proven, high-bandwidth MoCA silicon and software continues to be the silicon of choice in our products," Mike Pulli, CEO, Pace Americas. "As with earlier MoCA-capable boxes, Entropic's knowledge and support throughout our long-term relationship has been instrument in supporting Pace's strategic vision to optimize convergence in home networking."
"As TV manufacturers begin to implement RUI technologies, and the digital entertainment market begins to incorporate new multi-screen home entertainment environments, a server based on MoCA for high-speed, ultra performing video delivery will be required," said Vinay Gokhale, senior vice president, Marketing and Business Development, Entropic. "Our continuing relationship with market leader, Pace, supports both trends; accelerating new opportunities for services to enhance the overall whole-home TV viewing experience.
