PHI Joins White House Initiative to Improve Access to Energy Data

WASHINGTON-( Business Wire )-

PHI today joined with the White House to launch the national "Green Button” initiative. As a participant in this national initiative, PHI agreed to make energy usage data available to customers for download in a standardized format.

“Green Button marks the beginning of a new era of consumer control over energy use, and local empowerment to cut waste and save money,” said US Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra.

“With the benefits of open data standards, American ‘app’ developers and other innovators can apply their creativity to bring the smart grid to life for families in communities across the Nation.”

During the summer of 2012 as PHI continues to deploy the smart grid across its Delaware, District of Columbia and Maryland service areas, more customer energy usage information will be made available on the company's “My Account” Website. While customers can download that usage data today, by PHI joining this initiative, customers will be able to take advantage of the new apps developed and other technologies that will assist their efforts to improve the efficiency of their electric consumption. “We welcome the opportunity to partner with the White House in bringing innovative technology of the smart grid to our customers,” said Joseph M. Rigby, CEO Pepco Holdings, Inc. “This is directly in line with the PHI vision defined in our Blue Print for the Future. Advanced technologies and energy efficiency programs designed to improve service to our customers and empower them to manage their energy use and costs.”
