Constellation Energy Awarded Electricity Supply, Renewable Energy Contracts for Federal Agencies in New England, New York, Pennsylvania

BALTIMORE-( Business Wire )-Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG) has been awarded three new General Services Administration (GSA) electricity supply and renewable energy contracts in five states.
The additional contracts expand Constellation’s federal supply to 2.7 million megawatt hours of electricity per year, serve almost every region of the country eligible for competitive supply, and build upon existing contracts that include the U.S. Capitol, Federal Reserve and Smithsonian Institution. The new contracts cover agencies in New York (including the United Nations building), Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania.
“Constellation Energy is proud to provide our sustainable energy management and contracting expertise to a growing number of federal agencies, allowing them to meet their procurement, sustainability and security goals,” said Louis Hutchinson, Constellation Energy’s senior vice president, Public Sector.
“When combined with our existing contracts in the mid-Atlantic, Ohio, Illinois and California, these new GSA contracts in the New England region mean Constellation Energy is now serving the vast majority of the nation’s federal agencies in states with competitive markets.”
Constellation announced last year it had signed a three-year contract with the GSA to supply 1.72 million megawatt hours of electricity per year to federal sites that include the U.S. Capitol, Kennedy Center, Smithsonian Institution, GSA and the Federal Reserve, as well as the Departments of Justice, Labor, Interior, Transportation and Treasury. All GSA contracts are subject to federal competitive bid requirements.
That GSA contract followed the March 2011 announcement that Constellation signed an Energy Savings Agreement (ESA) with the U.S. Department of State that will contribute to President Obama’s executive order to reduce federal-wide greenhouse gas emissions. The State Department and part of the White House campus expect to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with domestic electricity consumption by approximately 30 percent to 35 percent by December 2012 and during the term of the ESA.
Constellation Energy is a federally approved provider of demand response services for both military and civilian government agencies, enabling federal sites to earn money by reducing consumption during times of peak energy demand. Constellation Energy is also one of the National Super Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) suppliers chosen by the U.S. Department of Energy to improve the efficiency of federal buildings through energy retrofit projects, energy saving performance contracts and deployment of renewable energy systems.
