Rite Aid Readies for Nation's Biggest Football Game with Great Deals on Party Essentials

CAMP HILL, Pa.-( Business Wire )-

With the nation's biggest football game just over a week away, Rite Aid is rolling out its best pregame promotional offers to help busy customers get ready for the big game. The promotion also highlights the drugstore chain’s positioning as a convenient year-round destination for great value on commonly purchased food and beverage items.

Beginning this weekend, Rite Aid's promotional efforts will be on full display with:

  • Prominent circular ads nationwide that feature party-themed product assortments
  • Special pricing and promotions for members of wellness+, Rite Aid’s free customer loyalty program
  • In-store, football-themed merchandising displays and increased stock of party-sized products

"The week leading up to the big game has become one of our top-selling weeks for food and beverages in our stores,” said Bill Renz, Rite Aid vice president, consumables. "We want to build on that momentum by encouraging customers to let value and convenience drive their decision to shop Rite Aid first as they stock up for the big game.”

Renz said food and beverage selection at Rite Aid has been steadily growing for several years– especially on the most common food items that consumers seek at Rite Aid to save time between trips to a traditional grocer. The trend has drawn national attention including USA Today's recently naming "drugstores as food stores" as among the top food trends for 2012.

Rite Aid's lineup of great offers for the upcoming football championship include a wide array of Pepsi products as well as highly popular snacks like Lays, Planters, Chex Mix, Pringles, Mars and Hershey's. In the 27 states where Rite Aid sells beer, customers can pick up great deals on Budweiser products including the new Bud Light Platinum plus popular brands from Miller, Coors, Molson, Michelob, Corona, Labatt, Heineken, Amstel Light and Stella Artois.

On top of promotional pricing, Rite Aid is giving members of its loyalty program wellness+ a chance to earn a $5 +UP with the purchase of $15 of select items. +UP Rewards print on the bottom of register receipts and are redeemable like cash with some limitations on a future Rite Aid purchase. Other great specials include Dreyer's/Edy's ice cream and Dixie paper products including plates, bowls, napkins and cups.

With more than 47 million enrolled members, Rite Aid's wellness+ program was recognized as the top-ranked and most-recommended loyalty program in the country by Zocalo Group in 2011 and was awarded the Shopper Technology Institute's 2011 LEADER Award in October. Launched in April 2010, wellness+ is the drugstore industry's first and only customer loyalty program to provide health and wellness benefits in addition to the shopping discounts. Members earn one point for every dollar spent on non-prescription purchases and 25 points for every prescription filled.*

Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD) is one of the nation’s leading drugstore chains with approximately 4,700 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia and fiscal 2011 annual revenues of $25.2 billion.
