Northrop Grumman Corporate Office Achieves LEED Gold Level Certification

FALLS CHURCH, Va., Feb. 7, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) new corporate office building has received the U.S. Business Council's (USGBC), Gold-level certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system for commercial interiors.

"Our corporate office project team embraced the LEED goal in the early planning stages of the building renovation and maintained that commitment through project execution and completion," said Gloria Flach, corporate vice president and president Enterprise Shared Services. "We're very proud to gain this certification."

The team employed a number of green design and construction features to meet the LEED requirements creating a blend of comfort, quiet and efficiency in the work environment. Northrop Grumman gained optimum energy performance with high-efficiency cooling and heating systems to reduce energy use by as much as 30 percent. The company also incorporated technologically advanced lighting controls and key environmentally friendly elements including plumbing fixtures, recycled and locally extracted building materials, sustainable furnishings and low-chemical-emitting paints, sealants, carpeting and adhesives to address air quality.

The company also utilizes best operational practices for water use and solid waste management to reduce its environmental footprint further. "Achieving LEED Gold certification for our new corporate office is a reflection of Northrop Grumman's commitment to environmental sustainability," said Flach.

Developed by the USGBC, LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. LEED is an open and transparent process where the technical criteria proposed by USGBC members are publicly reviewed for approval by the almost 20,000 member organizations that currently constitute the USGBC.

Northrop Grumman is a leading global security company providing innovative systems, products and solutions in aerospace, electronics, information systems and technical services to government and commercial customers worldwide. Please visit www.northropgrumman.com for more information.
