Healthways Appoints New International President

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-( Business Wire )-

Healthways, Inc. (NASDAQ: HWAY) today announced the promotion of Peter Choueiri to the role of President, Healthways International. Acting on the company’s established succession plan, Healthways appointed Choueiri to lead and grow the company’s international organization, reporting to Ben Leedle, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Healthways.

Choueiri joined Healthways in June 2011 as Chief Operating Officer of Healthways International to provide unified leadership for international operations, marketing and sales. His international healthcare experience and expertise strengthen Healthways global capabilities in operational excellence and the pursuit of new international customer relationships and business partners. Choueiri replaces Matt Kelliher, who retired from the company at the end of 2011.

“Peter’s new role as President of International will both position us for expansion into new countries and drive operational excellence across our current markets in Western Europe, Australia and Brazil,” said Leedle. “With his significant international experience and deep market expertise, we are confident he will lead the team to profitability and continued growth.”

Healthways has experienced continued international growth since the start of 2011. This includes new contracts awarded by France's Caisse Nationale d'Assurance Maladie des Travailleurs Salariés (CNAMTS), the national health insurance fund for 56 million lives, representing almost 86 percent of the French population, and the government of New South Wales in Australia for its publicly funded Connecting Care Program (for severe chronic disease support).

Mr. Choueiri has more than 15 years of healthcare experience. Prior to joining Healthways he was Member of the Munich Health Board of Munich Re, one of the world’s leading reinsurers, and as such, in charge of North America, Latin America, Middle East, Africa and Southern Europe. Before that he worked for various consulting organizations, including Accenture. His educational background includes a diploma from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität in Germany with advanced leadership trainings at INSEAD in France, The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business in the U.S. and the University of St. Gellen in Switzerland. He is fluent in French, German and English and will operate out of Munich, Germany.
