Transition expected to be seamless
COLLINSVILLE, Ill., May 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --The consultant group representing 51 Central and Southern Illinois communities announced Tuesday May 9, 2012 that Homefield Energy has been selected to serve as the new residential electric supplier. Homefield Energy is the residential electric supply option from Ameren Energy Marketing, a retail electric supplier that operates wholly independently from Ameren Illinois Company. Ameren Energy Marketing is a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation (NYSE: AEE). The switch to Homefield Energy electric supply will begin in early June.
"We couldn't be more pleased that the residents of these Illinois communities have selected Homefield Energy as their electric supply choice," said Steven R. Sullivan, president and CEO of Ameren Energy Marketing. "The transition should be seamless; the only difference customers will notice is a lower supply cost on their utility bill. Our employees know these Illinois communities and our energy centers are based in the state. Choosing Homefield Energy supports an Illinois business and local workers, keeping the dollars you spend right here."
The new supply rate will provide an estimated 30 percent savings for an average residential customer that uses approximately 800 kilowatt hours per month. The savings will appear on the energy supply portion of customers' current electric utility bills. Each customer's actual savings will vary based on specific usage patterns. According to the guidelines of municipal aggregation, eligible customers are automatically enrolled in the program unless the customer affirmatively "opts-out" of the program. Homefield Energy will notify customers of their right to opt-out with a mailed notice prior to the start of the service period
"Offering customers measurable savings and providing them with a seamless transition to Homefield Energy is our number one focus," said Tom Leigh, director of Sales and Marketing for Homefield Energy. "We have a dedicated team of experienced professionals located in Illinois ready to assist our customers with any questions or concerns they may have. We're excited to demonstrate why the Homefield Energy advantage is the best choice for Illinois energy customers."
Homefield Energy has been awarded contracts of two years in length. The two-year term price is $0.0408 per kilowatt-hour. Combined annual contract volume for all communities will be up to 2 billion kilowatt-hours annually.
